Subject ResourcesUnit Tracker Sheet
This spreadsheet can be fully customised to meet the needs of your particular subject area and the particular unit. Simply hide any P, M or D columns not needed. Enter the code 'F1' for first feedback followed by F2 and F3 for further feedback. Enter a P, M or D if the task is achieved. This works best if pupils have easy and regular access to it so they can monitor their progress.
Grade Calculator
This basic spreadsheet uses a formula to calculate a pupil's overall grade. This is best used to allow pupils to map their own progress and can be extremely motivating if used at the beginning of new units.
Command Verbs
It is essential that all pupils understand how to approach a piece of work and meet the requirements correctly. An understanding of the command verbs is invaluable, the ability to 'compare' is very different to the skill to assess.
These posters can be cut out for a 'Mix n Match' exercise. Or as a template for a classroom displ
Stuck Cycle
When pupils are stuck with their work what is the first thing they do, research it? Use the internet? Read a book? More often than not they will ask the teacher to guarantee reassurance. Create a 'Stuck Cycle' to prioritize the route for gaining knowledge.

The BTEC Subject Portfolio
Having worked for Edexcel / Pearson as a Standards Verifier one of the best examples of best practise came in the form of 'Subject Portfolio's'.
This gives ownership of the BTEC procedures to the department, the lead internal verifier's and the individual subject teachers.
The portfolio is very much a living document and requires regular upkeep throughout a programme of study. The emphasis of the portfolio is to show any external verifier that we forward plan and regularly verify.
Each department will have a blank portfolio, with dividers. It is the departments responsibility to regularly update each of the 9 sections.
To help you with the initial set-up of your portfolio I have attached some examples from my previous school and some blank templates to get you started.
